The iPhone Dev Team has released Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. iOS 5.0.1 was seeded to developers updated with bug fixes most importantly the battery drain issue.
First we will be reviewing all of Redsn0w updates since iOS 5 has been released.
Redsn0w 0.9.9b4: This version was made to jailbreak iOS 5 GM and then confirmed to jailbreak iOS 5.
Redsn0w 0.9.9b5: This version was a major update for the Redsn0w tool as it has the option of making Custom IPSW but sadly it was only available for Mac.
Redsn0w 0.9.9b6: This version introduced the Custom IPSW option for Windows users as it was available for both Mac and Windows. It Also had a fix for aGPS location service issue on iPhone 3GS baseband 06.15.
Redsn0w 0.9.9b7: This version had reduced the jailbreaking time from 210 seconds to 80 seconds.
Redsn0w 0.9.9b8:
This update as MuscleNerd tweeted adds iOS 5.0.1 Beta Keys to Redsn0w. And Here Is iPhone Dev Team Statement:
Update #16: redsn0w version 0.9.9b8 will natively recognize the 5.0.1 beta that Apple let developers start testing this week (so you don’t have to play the “point at 5.0 IPSW” trick). Because the IPSW isn’t public, you’ll still need to provide it once to redsn0w (at which point it will cache all the important pieces so you don’t need to select it again).
For those 3GS and i4 users who preserve their baseband, the Mac version can also produce the NO_BB_* custom IPSWs for 5.0.1. (But please note that ultrasn0w doesn’t get updated for betas like this.)
This is still a tethered jailbreak for all except old-bootrom 3GS users.
